Balloons are better than stickers.

We've recently had a run of sickness. Mostly from our daughter...who is getting it all from daycare. Thus, the era of daycare cruds has begun. I'm not pleased. Hopefully, she'll only get this stuff a couple of times and build up an immunity to it. *crosses fingers* If she doesn't...well, too bad because I have to do observations for my masters program.

We started off in January doing fairly well, until she got an ear infection, a sinus infection, and croup. All at once. It took about 5 days to get the fever down and for her to finally start feeling better. 2 and a half weeks later and we are BACK in the doctor's office with an ear infection, or rather the first one that wasn't fully gone. More antibiotics. Grrr. I hate giving her antibiotics, but I hate having her so sick worse so...on the upside we have learned a few tricks that I will share.

Cool air humidifiers are a life-saver. Not only do they help with colds, but if your kid has a fever you can use the humidifier to help cool them off.

A rolled up towel under the mattress helps keeps the head elevated.

Giving a binkie in between squirts of medication kept her from spitting the medicine out and got her to swallow it instead.

Calling the doctor's office in the evening seems to help get you in the next morning. Although, you might have to wait if they are squeezing you in.

Grape flavor is better than Orange flavor (grape OVER the orange flavor is even better). It's worth the extra 2-3 dollars.

Pharmacies seem to give you 'the exact' amount you need. If you run out (say you spill it or your kid spits out an entire dose) you can go back and tell them you didn't have enough to last the full run. Usually they will help. I told them at the front end and got a little extra so I didn't have to sit with it dripping into the spoon.
